Bicycle Maintenance

You’ll learn the best practices of cleaning, lubing, flat tire repair along with basic brake and shifting adjustments. We’ll give you the confidence to take that long solo ride and know you have the skills to keep your steed rolling. We’ll also go over our favorite maintenance products and tools.

 

Class schedule: 2-3 hours.

Cost for this course is $50.00 per person

General Information

All students completing a class receive a certificate of completion of the specific class.

 

We ask that all students come with materials needed to take notes. We cover a lot of technical information in class so we ask that cell phones are off and put away during class. Breaks will be taken throughout the day so you can check in.

 

All students must be able to lift 50 pounds. Please let us know ahead of time if you have any physical limitations that might keep you performing the tasks associated with bicycle mechanics. Including but not limited to lifting bikes into the stand, using wrenches and large tools.

 

Photos of specific techniques are allowed if approved by the instructor. Video recording of any portion of the class is not allowed.

 

We’re always available to answer questions from students by email if you get stumped or need a little refresher.

 

We reserve the right to cancel any scheduled classes. All deposits will be refunded in full or we’re happy to move your deposit to a class at a later date if we cancel a class.

Cancellation Policy

You’re entitled to a full refund of fees paid within five days of placing your initial deposit, provided that it’s prior to the start date of the specific class.

If you cancel a class reservation after the five-day period but before the start date of the class we offer refunds as follows:

 

Single Day classes canceled after the five day period but before the start date of the specific class will incur a 20% cancellation fee.

 

Multi day classes canceled after the five day period but before the start date of the specific class will forfeit the registration fee for that specific class.

 

You may move a reservation to another open date within one calendar year of the start date of the canceled class but all cancellation fees apply as they do for a cancellation of a registration.

 

Any students withdrawing from any multi day class before we complete 50% of the class will be considered for a prorated refund based on the specific day of cancellation, minus the registration fee.

 

No refunds are given after the class is 50% complete.

 

No refunds are given for canceling single and half day classes on or after the start date of the specific class.

 

All cancellations must be given by written notice through snail mail or e-mail prior to the specific cancellation deadline.

 

Full payment is expected and required before the start of the specific class you’re attending. Time is set aside on the first day of class to allow for payment processing. We accept most common forms of payment for final balance. Initial deposits are processed through PayPal.

The Proficient Bicycle Mechanic

A follow up to The Able Cyclist this class is designed for professional shop staff or anyone with the desire to master bicycle mechanics. We’ll guide you through the specific techniques of building and repairing bicycles and their components. This class will give you the necessary skills to tackle spoke replacement and wheel trueing, suspension setup, bearing removal, hub overhaul, Headset and bottom bracket rebuilds, In depth disc brake setup and repair, drivetrains in detail, frame alignment, basic bicycle sizing and frame geometry, frame materials demystified, tire sizing and selection.

 

This is a very informative class covering all major aspects of the modern bicycle and some important historical milestones. Our instructors will share with you the knowledge and passion they’ve experienced over decades of bicycle repair, setting you on a path to mastering bicycle mechanics.

 

Class schedule: 5 consecutive days.

Cost for this class is $ 900.00 per student.

The Able Cyclist

This class is designed for cyclists wanting to further their bicycle knowledge. This is also a great training tool for shop staff who are new to the industry. We’ll teach you the proper techniques of maintaining and adjusting all major bicycle components including basic wheel trueing. Our hands on training gives you a unique understanding of modern bicycle components, bearings, wheel systems and the proper use of specific tools of the trade. There’s a great feeling you get knowing you can take care of your bicycle and have the skills needed to keep your ride going.

 

Class schedule: Two consecutive days.

Cost for the course is $350.00 per person.

Bike Builder

This class is for industry staff wanting to streamline their techniques for efficient bicycle building. This class also works well for cyclists who bought a bicycle online and would like to learn about the specific technology their new bicycle offers. In addition to safely and professionally building up a new bicycle. We’ll take you through basic Bicycle Maintenance so you’ll leave with the skills needed to take care of that new ride. We’ll cover the proper use of any component specific tools required to perform future service.

 

Class schedule: 4-5 hours.

Cost for this course is $120.00 per person/bicycle.
